Further Progress in Robot Juggling: Solvable Mirror Laws

چکیده
In previous papers we have reported successful laboratory implementations of a family of juggling algorithms. In all but the one degree of freedom case, these empirically successful algorithms have so far resisted our analytical efforts to explain why they work. This is in large measure a consequence of our inability to write down using elementary functions an expression for the closed loop dynamics they induce. We discuss in this paper a modified juggling algorithm whose resulting closed loop dynamics can be written down directly. We offer data establishing the empirical success of the new algorithm. Theoretical analysis of the closed loop dynamics is presently in progress. Comments Copyright 1994 IEEE. Progress in spatial robot juggling
We review our progress to date in eliciting dynamically dexterous behaviors from a three degree of freedom direct drive robot manipulator whose real-time stereo cameras provide 60 Hz sampled images of multiple freely falling bodies in highly structured lighting conditions. At present, the robot is capable of forcing a single ping-pong ball into a specified steady state (near) periodic vertical ...
متن کاملFurther Progress in Robot Juggling: The Spatial Two-Juggle
We report on our recently achieved spatial two-juggle: the ability to bat two freely falling balls into stable periodic vertical trajectories with a single three degree of freedom robot arm using a real-time stereo camera system for sensory input. After a brief review of the previously reported one-juggle, we describe our initial approach to the two-juggle planning and control problem. We have ...
متن کاملPaddle Juggling by Robot Manipulator with Visual Servo
Juggling is a typical example to represent dexterous tasks of humans. There are many kinds of juggling, e.g., the ball juggling and club juggling in Fig. 1. Other kinds are the toss juggling, bouncing juggling, wall juggling, wall juggling, box juggling, devil sticks, contact juggling and so on. These days, readers can watch movies of these juggling in the website youtube and must be surprised ...
متن کاملA Simple Juggling Robot: Theory and Experimentation
We have developed a formalism for describing and analyzing a very simple representative of a class of robotic tasks which involve repeated robot-environment interactions, among then the task of juggling. We review our empirical success to date with a new class of control algorithms for this task domain that we call “mirror algorithms.” These new nonlinear feedback algorithms were motivated stro...
متن کاملChapter 4 Robust Closed - Loop Control of the Bouncing Ball
As illustrated in Chapter 3, open-loop stabilization of the bouncing ball requires negative acceleration of the actuator at impact (eq. (3.19), see Schaal et al., 1996). In contrast, the mirror law algorithms have been designed in closed-loop and can consequently afford positive acceleration at impact. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the role of acceleration tuning for robust closed-loop ...
